A Suspect Is At Large After Late-Night Standoff With Lubbock Police
A suspect is on the run, according to the Lubbock Police Department, after a late-night standoff in East Lubbock ended with his disappearance.
The incident first began Wednesday night with an altercation between neighbors in the 2400 block of East 10th Street. Just after 8 p.m., police were called to the scene after one man went inside his home, came back outside with a gun, and fired multiple shots at a group of people.
KAMC News reports that no one was injured in the shooting, but a pickup truck was damaged. The suspect, who is unnamed, is alleged to have gone back inside his home, where police believed children were also inside.
Multiple officers were then called to the scene, including SWAT team members, negotiators, K-9 units, the bomb squad, and even an armored vehicle called a B.E.A.R.
More than four hours later, at around midnight, SWAT members made their way into the home after a bomb squad robot discovered no activity inside. The suspect was nowhere to be found.
It's unclear how the suspect escaped the standoff with police, since officers had the home surrounded, or if the suspect was even inside the home at all when police arrived. Nearby residents who were evacuated for safety reasons were allowed to return to their homes and police are now looking for a suspect who may be on the run. An investigation is still ongoing.
