St. Louis Cardinals Steal Game 6 Victory from the Texas Rangers in 11 Innings

The World Series is going to 7 games.  Last night, the St. Louis Cardinals needed extra innings to edge out the Texas Rangers 10-9, in 11 innings.  Jake Westbrook picked up the win for St. Louis and Mark Lowe took the loss for Texas as he gave up a walk-off solo home run to David Freese in the bottom of the 11^th inning.

The Cardinals set a major league record by scoring runs in the 8^th, 9^th, 10^th and 11^th innings.

The Rangers almost had the game won twice as in both the 9^th and 10^th innings, the Cardinals were forced to their final strike.  However, in both innings, the Cardinals were able to bring the tying runs home to extend the game. In the ninth inning, Texas had a 7-5 lead with closer Neftali Feliz on the mound. The Cardinals tied it up on a two-out, two-run triple by the eventual game-hero David Freese. The Rangers countered with a Josh Hamilton two-run homer off reliever Jason Motte in the top of the 10th. In the bottom of the 10th Lance Berkman brought home the tying run with a two-out single, with two strikes against him.

"What can you say about this game but 'Wow!'" Rangers outfielder David Murphy told MLB.com. "This game had everything. That was the best game I've ever been a part of. I don't know what to say or how to describe that game."

Both Mike Napoli and Nellie Cruz are questionable for Game 7 with injuries.  Napoli rolled his ankle sliding into second base and Cruz has tweaked his groin late in the Game 6.

Ron Washington and Tony LaRussa taxed their bullpens in the 11 inning game. Washington used eight pitchers and LaRussa, seven.

The Rangers blew five separate leads throughout the game, including their largest lead of 7-4 in the 7th inning.

Matt Harrison will start tonight’s Game 7 for Texas and it appears Chris Carpenter will go for the Cards.
