Seven Texas Tech and Lubbock Christian University Baseball Players drafted in Major League Baseball Draft
The Major League Baseball Draft was held over the weekend and seven collegiate players were drafted from Lubbock area schools.
Texas Tech saw three players taken starting with ace pitcher Trey Masek in the 5th round by the Chicago Cubs. Masek had a 5-2 record this season on 11 starts with a 1.82 ERA.
Left-handed relief pitcher Andre Wheeler was drafted in the 15th round to the Chicago White Sox. Wheeler went 4-1 this season with a 6.19 ERA
Right-handed pitcher Jerad McCrummen was drafted in the 23rd round to the Colorado Rockies. McCrummen was 1-5 in this season with a 4.59 ERA and three saves.
LCU saw four players drafted with Fabian Roman going in the 16th round to the Cincinnati Reds, Christian Vazquez in the 19th round to the Toronto Blue Jays, Jace Chancellor to the San Diego Padres in the 28th round, and Derek Loera in the 28th round to the Tampa Bay Rays.
