President Obama didn't mince words when welcoming the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team to the White House on Tuesday.

The commander-in-chief honored the squad for winning the Women's World Cup by saying "This team taught all America's children that 'playing like a girl' means you're a badass." Maybe sensing he used some undiplomatic language for the most powerful man in the free world, Obama added, "Perhaps I shouldn’t have used that phrase. Playing like a girl means being the best."

Obama, who took the requisite selfie with the team, also had some high praise for hero Carli Lloyd, who scored a hat trick in the first 16 minutesof the final match against Japan. He said, "I had gotten my popcorn, I was all settling in. I’m thinking I’ve got a couple hours of tension and excitement -- and poof, it was gone. It was over."

And after congratulating the team, he wasted no time looking ahead, telling the women to go win the gold at the Olympics next year.
