We're living in new and different times with the novel coronavirus dominating our daily lives. The one thing we all still must do? Shop for groceries.

Our friends at United Supermarkets know that, and have been taking steps to make sure that when you're shopping at one of their stores, they're providing a safe experience.

Brenda Garcia with United Supermarkets joined me on the phone today (social distancing) to discuss the steps United is taking, along with the steps you can take to make sure you're shopping healthy.

Garcia suggested all shoppers wash or sanitize their hands before coming to their favorite United Supermarkets location. When walking in, either a store employee will direct you to a cart that has been sanitized, or you can take a sanitary wipe and wipe down your own cart.

Garcia also suggested social distancing. Garcia said two grocery cart lengths is best when you can. Garcia also said that while shopping, only touch what you plan to purchase. Also, remember not to touch your face while shopping.

When leaving, Garcia suggested using hand sanitizer before getting into your car.

Garcia has also been asked by many if it's safe to eat fresh fruit and vegetables. Garcia told us that yes, it is safe to eat fresh fruits and vegetables, but there are some things you should do to make sure they are clean.

When you get home, wash your hands. Also, wash your fruits and vegetables with water. DO NOT wash your food with soap and water, though. Garcia said that could make you sick.

Listen to all of Brenda's tips in the video above.
