On Tuesday, July 12th, an Odessa, Texas man pleaded guilty to shooting and killing his brother during an argument that happened 2 years prior.

KAMC News reports Lubbock police responded to the 500 block of 50th Street around 8:15 p.m. on September 26th, 2020. There, officers found 40-year-old Raymond Hernandez with a gunshot wound. he was transported to University Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

It's said that Raymond and his brother, 40-year-old James Leroy Hernandez, were arguing right before the shooting took place. Someone close to Raymond told police that James was smoking "crack or something" and thought that people were "out to get him." Raymond had gotten onto James about having a gun, causing the argument.

Police said that Raymond was walking down the street while James was following him in a vehicle. James shot Raymond from the vehicle and drove off to where another family member was. He reported told that family member: "I ****ed up. Ray, Ray, Ray. I shot him."

Investigators obtained a murder warrant for James, but he ended up turning himself into the Lubbock County Detention Center the day after the incident. This was around 3:30 a.m. on September 27th.

James was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the murder of his brother and will receive credit for time already served in jail.
