Missing Lubbock Woman’s Remains Recovered in Hockley County
The Lubbock Police Department is one step closer to finding out exactly what happened to 34-year-old Sandy Cervantes.
Skeletal remains discovered more than a year ago in Hockley County have finally been identified. The Lubbock Police Department says they discovered skeletal remains inside an abandoned house in Hockley County back in April of 2020.
KAMC News reports that a forensic Odonatologist was able to use dental records to confirm that the remains belong to 34-year-old Sandy Cervantes, a woman and mother of 3 who went missing in Lubbock in June 2019.
According to another report, friends of Cervantes told authorities that they believed Cervantes to be in danger as early as June 2019, but that her family did not officially report her missing until February 2020 and an investigation was opened.
The LPD says that just days after Cervantes was believed to have gone missing, they found Cervantes' 2006 Saturn Vue on fire in the 1000 block of Cesar E Chavez Drive, and soon her purse had also been recovered inside a dumpster in Abernathy.
Investigators with the Lubbock Police Department say that Cervantes' remains being recovered does help the investigation and that foul play is suspected in this case.
A woman and friend of Cervantes named Courtney Horton told KAMC News in 2020 that she wouldn't have willingly left her 3 daughters behind by themselves. She also said that Cervantes had been hanging out with "the wrong crowd" before she disappeared.
Horton also noted that 2 cousins of Cervantes had also gone missing in the past and both were found dead; Zoe Campos and Mark Ysasaga.
