A Lubbock man who was allegedly chopping at a tree in front of a business with a machete was arrested for public intoxication and criminal mischief.

KAMC News reports that a bit before 8 p.m. on Monday, April 4th, a Lubbock police officer was flagged down. He was told that there was a man in a black trench coat with a machete in the 3300 block of 35th Street.

The officer located the suspect and observing him striking a tree outside of a business. The suspect then walked inside and the officer followed with his taser drawn. Originally, the suspect wasn't cooperating with the officer but he eventually stepped away from the machete and was taken into custody.

The suspect admitted to consuming alcohol beforehand, but the officer noted that there were indications he was under the influence of some other type of narcotic. The suspect also said he was going to urinate while in the back of the patrol vehicle, which he did once they arrived at the jail.

The business didn't want to press charges for the damage caused to the tree, but they did say the man had often come inside with a machete and they felt uncomfortable with him there.

The suspect's identity wasn't released.
