Just after 11:15pm, Wednesday night, Lubbock Police officers were called out to the Lubbock Square Apartments in the 4600 block of 50th Street. When officers arrived on the scene, they found 20-year-old Tyshaun Bates inside his apartment with life threatening injuries from a gunshot wound. Bates was taken to UMC where he was pronounced dead.

According to LPD, their initial investigation found that two men had entered Bates' apartment and there was a confrontation that led to the shooting.

The Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit is investigating a Wednesday night fatal shooting at the Lubbock Square Apartments.

At approximately 11:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Lubbock police officers responded to the apartment in the 4600 block of 50th Street for reports of shots fired. Officers located 20-year-old Tyshaun Bates with life threatening injuries inside his apartment. Bates was taken by EMS to the hospital and was later pronounced deceased.

Investigators with the Metro Special Crime Unit arrived on scene to immediately begin an investigation into the shooting. Based on the initial investigation it appears two black males entered the apartment and got into an altercation with Bates. At some point during the altercation, one of the suspects fired a shot at Bates and struck him.

Texas Anti-Gang Center investigators also responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.

At this time, Metro investigators are asking for the public’s help. Anyone with information about this shooting and the two suspects should call Crime Line at 806-741-1000. Callers can remain anonymous and may eligible for a cash reward.
