Lubbock Pharmacies Receiving Moderna Vaccine This Week

This week, pharmacies in Lubbock are expecting to receive around 10,500 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.

KAMC News reports that most of the doses are going to 17 local pharmacies. four of those are pharmacies with United Supermarkets.

Crockett Tidwell, the Clinical Services Manager at United Supermarket pharmacies, spoke with KAMC and said:

I know that a lot of people are very anxious about getting the vaccine [...] But we got to take care of those frontline healthcare workers first, so that they can take care of the rest of us.

United has said that they are looking forward to receiving the Moderna vaccine, which is much easier to store than the Pfizer vaccine. Moderna's coronavirus vaccine only needs refrigeration, instead of deep freezing like the Pfizer vaccine.

Similar to Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine, those receiving it will need to get the shot twice, four weeks apart.

Healthcare workers, EMS workers and those working at long-term care facilities are set to be the first to receive the vaccine. Residents in these facilities will also eventually receive the vaccine by the end of the first phase of vaccine distribution.

United has said they hope to set up mass immunization clinics for caregivers to increase the amount of vaccinations done each day.
