Summer days tend to get repetitive with the same old swimming, fishing and camping adventures. Lubbock families can add some cinematic fun under the stars to that list.

Lubbock's Parks and Recreation Department is bringing back Movies in the Park in honor of Parks and Recreations Appreciation Month. The three movies being shown this summer are definitely worth appreciating.

The movies in the park event's will be held in different parks each Saturday and will showcase different family-friendly movies that are all free to the public.

This Saturday, July 9th, marks the kickoff off the event and will showcase the classic 80s film, The Goonies.

The event will start at 8 p.m. at Bill and Ann Miller Park, located at 74th Street and Memphis, with the movie set to begin once the sun has gone down (around 9:30 p.m.). Families can bring their own snacks and drinks, but the sponsor of the event, Amerigroup, will be providing free popcorn and drinks during the movie. A parks and recs pop-up trailer will also have all sorts of goodies for sale.

Don't forget to bring mosquito repellent, seating and blankets. And make sure to clean up after yourselves to show the Lubbock Parks and Recreation team some appreciation during their appreciation month.
