A Lubbock man managed to take back his vehicle after it was stolen on Wednesday, June 23rd.

The victim, who wasn't identified, said that he went into the 7-11 at 3802 34th Street at around 10:50 p.m. He says that as we went inside to purchase some items, he left his pickup unlocked and running with the air conditioner on, since his dog was inside.

After coming out of the store a few minutes later, he saw a white man with long blonde hair get into his vehicle. A witness in the store also saw the man get into the vehicle.

The victim's phone was left inside the pickup as well, so the witness then asked the victim if his cellphone connection was being shared with anyone. The victim called his girlfriend, who was able to give him updates on the phone's location.

KAMC News reports that the victim and the witness then followed the phone to between 18th and 19th Street near Buddy Holly Avenue. The pickup was able to be located there, and the victim then approached the driver's side to pull the suspect out. The suspect jumped to the passenger seat, but the victim went around and managed to pull him out.

The suspect was punched several times in the face as the victim was trying to stop him from escaping or re-entering the pickup.

The suspect, 26-year-old Tanner Cade Halterman, was arrested for unlawful use of a motor vehicle and remains in the Lubbock County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond.
