On Tuesday, August 17th, a Lubbock man pleaded guilty to stealing 38 guns from Gebo's Distributing, Inc. a few months prior.

Back on May 28th, Lubbock Police responded to a burglary at 1 a.m. at Gebo's, located near 50th Street and Avenue A. Investigators found 4 of the stolen firearms in a field nearby, but the other 34 guns were still missing.

Police found surveillance footage that displayed a suspect with a backpack, 2 mesh laundry bags and a crowbar stealing the bags with the guns before leaving.

A few days later, May 30th, 49-year-old Mark Anthony Lara was pulled over for a traffic stop. The officer noticed the barrel of a handgun sticking out from underneath the front passenger seat, and upon further investigation, found 3 guns in a backpack in the backseat and a rifle wrapped in a stained red hoodie. That hoodie was the same one the suspect was seen wearing in the aforementioned surveillance footage.

KAMC News reports that Lara was originally charged with theft of firearms from a federal firearms licensee, but as the case developed, the charges changed to felon in possession of a firearm.

Lara now faces up to 10 years in federal prison on top of a fine of up to $250,000.
