Lubbock Fire Rescue has issued the following statement regarding the sale and use of fireworks during Memorial Day weekend:

Fireworks inside the City of Lubbock:

Memorial Day is for remembering and honoring persons who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.  On behalf of the men and women of Lubbock Fire Rescue we honor and remember all of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

As you are celebrating this Memorial Day Lubbock Fire Rescue along with Lubbock Fire Marshal’s Office would like to remind everyone that the possession, sale, storage, or use of fireworks inside the City of Lubbock is prohibited.  City of Lubbock Code of Ordinances Article 10.08 references that fireworks can be seized and fines up to $1000 can be issued to the individual possessing, selling, storing, or using fireworks.

Please have a fun and safe Memorial Day weekend.

If you have any questions please contact the on-call PIO @ 806-544-2534 or FirePIO@mylubbock.us.

Use caution and be safe if you have to celebrate with fireworks, but our recommendation is that fireworks be reserved for celebration rather than for memorial.
