The Lubbock-Cooper Pirates on Thursday swept a doubleheader against the Stephenville Yellow Jackets to win their best-of-three series and advance to the Class 3A State Tournament in Austin.

Game 1 went to the Pirates by an 8-1 score. A three-run fifth inning allowed Cooper to take a 6-1 lead and essentially put Game 1 into their favor.

Game 2 of the Class 3A Region I Final is one that will be talked about for a long time.  Cooper beat Stephenville 11-0 to clinch the series win. However, it was Cooper's pitching that was in the spotlight for the second game. Scotland Church threw a no-hitter in the Pirate win. Church struck out 12 Yellow Jackets and allowed five baserunners.  According to the Lubbock A-J, Thursday's no-hitter was Church's sixth shutout of the season.

Cooper will play in the State Tournament next Wednesday at UT's Disch-Falk Field.
