First, it was Kmart. Then, RadioShack announced it had filed for bankruptcy and will be closing stores. Next on the chopping block: JCPenney.

Business Insider is reporting that JCPenney is closing 140 stores across the nation. According to the site, the South Plains Mall location is one of the store most at risk for closing.

Of course, the retailer hasn’t yet published an actual list of stores that will close, but if the Lubbock store were to close it would be the end of an era for the South Plains Mall.

JCPenney was one of the mall's original tenants. If it closes, then, to my knowledge, none of the original tenants will still be there. They will all be gone.

I don’t know about you, but I do still shop at JCPenney. I guess my JCPenney credit card will collect dust if the store closes for good.

What do you think about the possibility of JCPenney closing in Lubbock? Let us know in the comments.
