The Levelland Animal Shelter is at full capacity, and dogs are being given 48 hours before they're euthanized.

KAMC News reports that the shelter has 16 spots available to keep dogs, and 10 for cats. With the stray dog problem in Levelland, the kennels fill up almost every week. In 2021, the shelter took in over 800 dogs. They even had to put down 17 last year for space.

John Corder, an animal control officer at the animal shelter, says that every other option is considered before euthanization is brought to the table. He said:

We try to do our best to get them up and off the streets. And we get them adopted out pretty regularly. We work with several rescues, we have lots of volunteers that come out and they have their own Facebook pages and stuff. And they assist us in getting the dogs home.

Adopting a dog from the Levelland Animal Shelter is fee and easy, as you only need to fill out paperwork. The shelter event tries to vaccinate each dog before adoption.

If you're interested in adopting a dog for free from the shelter, you can see the available dogs at the Levelland Animal Shelter Facebook page. You can also visit the shelter's website for additional information.

The Levelland Animal Shelter is located at 109 Commerce Drive. Come adopt a dog before the afternoon of Friday, February 11th!
