Levelland Steps Up Their Game With a Classy New Winery
Prairie Chick Winery and Milieu (3924 Alaska Road) just opened for business in Levelland, Texas, and if you know me, you know how much I love wine. I am absolutely over the moon for this new spot, and it's just a hop, skip and jump away from my house. Epic.
I scrolled through the new winery's Facebook page to get an idea of how formal or laidback the place would be. I've visited several wineries and I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy a more laid-back atmosphere. Some of them can feel stuffy and uncomfortable. That's not the case with Prairie Chick.
This new winery setting is a big, revamped barn with high ceilings and a rustic but elegant ambiance. There's a cozy couch and seating area. The progression photos of the construction on the new winery shows them reusing old wooden pallets to build fencing, giving new life to things we often see discarded in alleyways. Some of the furnishings look as if they're reclaimed vintage or antique items as well. There's also an incredible chandelier that I'm betting has a great story behind it.
According to Facebook, Prairie Chick Winery and Milieu is a family business and it offers 100 percent Texas-made wine and unique boutique items, making it an excellent place to take guests visiting the panhandle. I try to buy local as often as possible, instead of giving my money to big chains, so this will likely be one of my new favorite places.
They do have some odd hours right now, only opening Wednesdays from 5 to 8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 3 to 8 p.m. Maybe that will change in the future. We'll see.
