Yeah, we can do better than this. And no, I really don't care if it's legal or not.

At my house on the west side of Lubbock, if we leave anything outside the dumpster in the alley, it's gonna stay there. The garbage trucks are not going to stop and load crap into it. They'll pick up the dumpster, dump it, and move on. Everything next to the dumpster stays there until it becomes modern art.

So when I see stuff like this, it makes me insane because clearly someone decided that their old furniture was just going to be someone else's problem.

This was literally the scene this morning in the (somewhat bougie) apartment complex adjacent to the Townsquare Media complex in Lubbock, Texas. Someone must have either upgraded their furniture or decided to bolt before being evicted and just left their old furniture next to a dumpster and in the adjacent parking lot.

A couch, footrest, box spring and mattress, all left scattered around the dumpster in question, since whomever got it out of their apartment couldn't be bothered to take it down to a county refuse center (which takes a fairly simple internet search to locate). And we wonder why our trash bills are so high here.

Now, I can already hear some of you:

"What if they don't have a truck to haul it off?"

"Who are YOU to be so judgmental?"

Again, not my problem, but leaving crap like this laying about just looks bad and makes the trash haulers' job even tougher. And it's just plain lazy. Besides, if this is furniture that's been replaced, they obviously had the money to buy new stuff and should be able to pay to have the old stuff hauled off.

This isn't a one time occurrence. I've seen piles of trash in vacant lots and on the side of the road, so this is nothing new here. It makes our fair 'burg look like an armpit.

Do better, LBK.
