Two suspects were arrested following a pursuit in Central Lubbock the morning of Thursday, October 21st.
Officers initially attempted to make a traffic stop near 24th Street and Chicago Avenue at around 10:41 a.m. However, it's reported that a suspect exited the passenger seat while the vehicle drove away.
The driver, 20-year-old Javier Medrano, was said to have had multiple traffic warrants on top of an unlawful carrying of a weapon warrant. He led an officer on a foot pursuit before jumping over a fence into a residential area. Lubbock Christian University and daycares in the area were placed on lockdown as a perimeter was set up. Medrano was taken into custody around 11:30 a.m. and charged with evading in a vehicle and on foot.
The other suspect, 19-year-old Gabriel Castillo, wasn't found until a bit before 1 p.m. He was located in the 9700 block of Saratoga Avenue. He was wanted in connection to a crash that ended up killing 17-year-old Megan Martinez back on April 16th, 2021.
Castillo was arrested for both manslaughter and evading arrest. He's currently being held in the Lubbock County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond.
