Jacksonville Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew to Skip Mandatory Minicamp

Houston Texan fans rejoice! Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew is skipping a mandatory minicamp as part of a contract dispute.

Fans of the Colts, Titans and Texans can only hope it lasts into the season similar to that of Tennessee’s Chris Johnson.

Jones-Drew didn’t show up for a team meeting Tuesday and isn’t expected to join the Jaguars for any part of the three-day camp. Head-coach Mike Mularkey can fine Jones-Drew up to $60,000 if he misses the entire camp.

General manager Gene Smith has said he has no plans to renegotiate Jones-Drew’s current deal, more or less setting the stage for a potential lengthy holdout.

The Jaguars featured back led the NFL in rushing last season with 1,606 yards. He has two years remaining on a five-year contract worth $31 million. He is scheduled to earn $4.45 million this season and $4.95 million in 2013.

My opinion? Pay the man, I mean Blaine Gabbert is still the starting quarterback isn’t he?
