FC Juarez Bravas cruised to victory in their season opener, defeating Puebla at home by the score of 3-0, Monday night at Benito Juarez Olympic Stadium. Annia Mejia, Dayana Martin and Karime Abud scored the goals for the team from the Borderland give the home crowd their first joy of the new season.

The Bravas controlled all aspects of the match from the opening kickoff, having a relatively easy time imposing their will on the opponents from southern Mexico. This is the fifth consecutive match that FC Juarez has been able to defeat Puebla.

The first real threat on goal came in the 13th minute when forward Prisca Chilufya took a shot that went wide left by the narrowest of margins. Three minutes later she had another shot on goal that just missed the back of the net.

The scoring opened when Annia Mejia was able to get her head on a corner kick. Meijia outjumped both a Puebla defender and their goalkeeper giving the Bravas a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute. The score would remain going into halftime.

Borderland native Dayana Martin extended the lead for the Bravas in the 71st minute when, again a corner kick, Martin was able to score off a header when she was able to shake her defender loose and get her head on the ball completely unchallenged easily getting the ball past the opposing goalkeeper. The final goal came 11 minutes later when Chilufya attacked down the right flank whipping in a cross that found the Karime Abud’s left leg putting the ball in the back of the net, putting the exclamation point on a dominating performance.

What’s next?

Juarez will now turn its attention to their next rival in another home match. The Bravas will host Necaxa on Sunday evening on the banks of the Rio Grande, kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Necaxa lost their season opener at home, falling to Chivas de Guadalajara by the score of 3-0 Monday evening. Sunday’s match will be streamed on FC Juarez’s YouTube channel.

Bravas star player injured

Forward Jasmine Casarez, who has established herself as the star player for the Bravas, and one of the PR focal points for all three of the MountainStar Sports Group soccer teams is starting the 2025 Clausura season injured. A little more than an hour prior to Monday’s season opener it was announced that the California native suffered a grade 2 sprained ankle. Recovery time was note disclosed in the media release.
