People in Midland-Odessa, Texas are not much different than every other Texan out there in the state.  The state pride that is collectively shared by natives seems to bond us together, regardless of what side of Texas you are from.  It's clear that we all love our state.

Overall, Texas is just a great place to live and work.  And being how great natives think Texas is, we understand that people from other states wanna join in on the action.  After all, Texas is one of the fastest-growing states which gains roughly between 300,000 to 500,000 new residents each year.

These are three unwritten rules that native Texans already know that we wish people from out-of-state knew.

1.) NEVER Disrespect Texas

Most people from other parts of the country may have heard how much pride we have for our state but are still taken aback when they see it with their own two eyes.  Disrespecting that pride or any other aspect of the state is a HUGE problem with some Texans. Some visitors will never understand this, but it's a very real thing in the Lone Star state.  If you do not share the love for the great state of Texas, keep it to yourself.  It's a quick way to anger most Texans.

2.) If You Drive Slow, Do NOT Drive On Left Lane

Just about every Texan has gotten frustrated by someone who is driving slow or driving the speed limit and driving on the far left lane of the highway.  Texans live in a big state, so we oftentimes have a lot of ground to cover.  Having said that, it's understandable that we drive fast.  Driving the speed limit or slow on the left-hand side of the highway interrupts an unwritten system that all Texans know and respect.  Backing up traffic because you are on the left side of the highway is NOT a good look.

3.) Don't Mess With Texas

As Texans, we take pride in the beauty of our state. From the deserts of West Texas, to the lakes, rivers, and coast in Eastern Texas, the last thing we want to see is trash on our roads or public places.  This is such a big deal the motto "Don't Mess With Texas" was founded in 1985 as an anti-littering campaign developed by the Department of Texas Transportation.  The campaign was so successful, the motto is still used 40 years later.

There you have it.  Enjoy your stay in Texas but remember, these unwritten rules are followed by pretty much every native Texan you will come across.
