Central Texas, This Is Your Emergency Plan For Rattlesnake Encounters
Some of us in the state of Texas love going out and hiking in the state. It's nice to see the state when the temperature is just right isn't it? But, there are other animals among us here in the Lone Star State, and not all of them are friendly.
How Often Are Texans Attacked By Animals In Texas?
Back in 2021, data was collected showing that Texas had major issues with animal attacks causing death in the state. How bad you ask? Well Texas landed at number one in the nation for attacks.
In total, 520 lives were lost by these attacks. So, individuals living in Texas have a plan for when someone or themselves are harmed by an animal. But there's many animals in the wild that could harm them.

One of the animals we'll focus on is none other than a rattlesnake. What happens if a Central Texan gets bitten by a rattlesnake, and their phone doesn't work? Can anything be done?
Is There Something Someone Can Do If They're Bit By A Rattlesnake And Their Cell Phone Isn't Working?
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, there are solutions for one if they don't have cell service following a rattlesnake harming them. If you own an Android phone, the device must have the Android 12 OS to alert medical services to the situation. This is how you do it, per the Star-Telegram:
- Press the power button five times or more and either hold inside the red circle for three seconds or wait for the automatic countdown to begin the call.
- After you start an emergency call, other emergency actions will begin, such as sharing your location with your emergency contacts. However, you can only share real-time location with emergency contacts with a Wi-Fi or mobile internet connection.
For iPhones, you need a later model of the device, a 14, 15, or 16, and this what you need to know:
- Simultaneously press and hold the side button and either volume button until the screen shows two options: “Slide to power off” and “SOS emergency call.”
- Slide the SOS option. Or, you can make an emergency SOS call by pressing the side (lock, unlock) button five times. Go to settings, click on emergency SOS, then turn on “call with five button presses.”
Be smart and safe Texas!
