LSU Sets Concession Stand Record to Open 2026 Football Season

(Baton Rouge, Louisiana) - The LSU Tigers opened up their 2026-27 football season last weekend agasint the Clemson Tigers in Tiger Stadium, and the university set an all-time record in sales at the concession stand.

The game was scheduled to start at 6:45, but a lightning delay pushed kickoff to nearly 9 p.m., leaving many in the stadium hungry and thirsty.

While in the stadium, I couldn't help but notice how many fans were in line at the concessions waiting for their favorites, and apparently, while they waited for the game to start, all they did was drink and eat.

LSU announced that net concession sales totaled $2.3 million during Saturday night’s game against Clemson. The figure includes sales after taxes and credit card fees and covers only main concourse concessions, excluding premium suites and club areas.

WAFB shared the following from LSU; here were the top-3 drink sellers in Tiger Stadium:

• Michelob Ultra (16 oz): The overall No. 1 top-selling item, with 41,138 cans sold, generating $450,890 in net sales.
• “Tiger Water”: The No. 2 most-purchased item of the night, with 33,549 units sold, totaling $125,975.45.
• Bud Light (16 oz): While not third in total sales, it finished as the night’s second-most popular beer option, bringing in $119,010.

Look, it was a hot and humid night in Baton Rouge to start the season, and when you throw in a long delay, people in Louisiana will drink, and they were certainly drinking way more than just water to pass the time.

And while many fans in 'Death Valley" were thirsty, many were also hungry, as LSU reports the following when it came to food sales:

The Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich was the crowd favorite with 9,745 sandwiches purchased.

I did see some fans report that some stadium concessions ran out of food, but that's what you can expect when over 100,000 fans are sitting there waiting for a game to start.

LSU defeated Clemson to start its season, and by all indications, fans left happy and full. This week, LSU hosts Louisiana Tech in Tiger Stadium, and that game is officially sold out.
