(Lafayette, Louisiana) - If you travel across the city of Lafayette, you already know that we have several dangerous intersections; however, there's one that is really dangerous.

A couple of days ago, I was traveling along Dulles in Lafayette and missed my turn, so I decided to take Ole Colony Rd. to get to Ambassador Caffery, and I learned that this is a very dangerous intersection.

No, there's no roundabout or light to worry about at this intersection, but if you are turning right onto Ambassador Caffery, you need to be very careful.

Like, at any intersection, you should approach it with caution, and if you're on Ole Colony Rd and Ambassador Caffery, you need to watch for oncoming traffic.

If you're attempting to turn right on Ambassador Caffery from Ole Colony Rd. Traffic traveling south along Ambassador Caffery is often moving fast, but that isn't the only issue at the intersection near National Discount Tire.

At the intersection is a large utility pole that isn't far off the road, and it really does obstruct your view while you are turning right onto Ambassador Caffery. Now, I am sure that engineers calculated the pole's distance from the road and intersection correctly, but it is still an issue.

How Far Are the Light Poles From the Street

According to LightMart, light poles (utility poles) are usually 1.5 to 5 feet from the road, though that can vary by city code.

So, if you ever find yourself at this intersection in Lafayette (and you may, since it is another way to get to Ambassador to avoid traffic), be very careful and make sure you look left a few times when turning right.

We don't want you or anyone getting hurt at this intersection, but with the pole obstructing your view, it may be easy to proceed with a turn into oncoming traffic.

While I was stopped at the intersection as traffic approached, I took this photo to show you how the utility pole at Ole Colony Rd and Ambassador Caffery obstructs your view while turning right onto Ambassador. And no, I am not suggesting they move the pole (that was a joke).
