Louisiana Parents Urged to Not Let Kids Dig Holes in Sand
(KTDY) - Families from across Acadiana are rushing to the beach this summer, but a recent scare at one popular beach should remind parents not to allow their dogs to dig in the sand while on the beach.
Sure, every kid wants to play in the sand, and we get it, but at times, it can be dangerous when things go too far.
A child is lucky to be alive after a freak accident at a beach in Pensacola. According to several posts on social media, a child had to be rescued by lifeguards and fire personnel while he was playing in the sand along the beach.
Reports say that the kid was digging a hole in the sand when it collapsed on him, and basically buried the child allive.
Amazingly, the child was rescued and observed on the scene and not taken to the hospital. However, we've had stories llike the one out of Pensacola end tragically, and that is why I am sharing this story/reminder with you.
Sand Can Collapse
When anyone digs into the sand, there's a chance it will collapse at any moment, often without warning. Sand is heavy, and when wet, it can be very difficult for rescuers to reach anyone buried in it.
So, if you are bringing your kids to the beach this summer, please monitor them at all times, and never let them dig deep holes in the sand.
Beach Etiquette
It is also polite to never leave holes in the sand when you are done on the beach. Many people enjoy a stroll on the beach at sunset and in the evening, and a hole left uncovered can be a hazard to those out on the beach.

Remember, it is always encouraged to clean up your space on the beach and never to litter or leave your area unattended. Again, never allow your kids to dig holes and stand in them while on the beach; the risk of the hole collapsing is too high.
