Amarillo's Iconic Yellow Building Is Now Gray

If you spend a lot of time driving between Bell and Western on 45th in Amarillo, you might have noticed a big change to one of the most recognizable buildings on that street.

This building has been many things in its life, but the color made it stand out. You knew exactly where you were when you saw this bright yellow building. However, the building has changed, and it blends in now with the shopping strip next door.

Where Is the Former Oscar's Building?

We're talking about the building at 4602 SW 45th Ave. The building got its iconic yellow color when Oscar's moved into this location in 2017. Until now, that building has been bright yellow.

Who Has Been in the Building Since Oscar's?

Oscar's closed in September 2022, and Good Day Burritos moved into the building that October.

Good Day Burritos stayed in the iconic yellow building until 2025, when they moved down the road and into their bigger yellow building.

Not long after Good Day moved out, Caudillo's Mexican Food moved in and opened in November 2025.

Why Did Caudillo's Paint the Building Gray?

Caudillo's has been in the building ever since. On September 14, 2026, they posted on social media that they were closing for a few days for updates. One of the changes was a new coat of paint. The building went from that bright yellow to gray.

We reached out to Caudillo's several times to ask about the change in paint color on the building and whether they had new plans for the restaurant. However, at the time of publishing, they had not responded to any of our requests.

The big yellow building we all grew so familiar with is gone; now it's gray. Caudillo's is still there and still serving up its great Mexican food.

What Are Caudillo's Hours?

Hungry? Stop by and give them a try for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They are open 8 am to 8 pm Monday through Saturday and 8 am to 3 pm on Sundays.
