So a couple of weeks ago, the City of Amarillo had to participate in a nationwide test of pretty much every alert that was out there. Child abduction alerts, severe weather alerts, etc. You name it, they tested it.

The good news is, they all work. If there's ever an emergency, we will get notified with some sort of alert through the radio, on TV, and through our phones. However, I think they may have either forgotten to test something during that run, or they decided they needed to test this particular alarm this morning.

Did Tornado Sirens Go Off In Amarillo

I was dead asleep this morning, waiting for my alarm to go off, but it was a different alarm that seemed to make me jump out of bed quickly this morning. I swear the tornado sirens went off in Amarillo this morning.

I know I wasn't dreaming or anything like that, because it popped me up pretty quickly, and I was wide awake. I just sat there listening to them, looking at my wife, wondering if it was legit or just a test. Did someone push a button they weren't supposed to?

Good News Is They Work

I know I can't be the only one who heard them this morning. I also don't recall seeing anything about a tornado siren test in what I THINK was the 5 am hour, and why would you do it so early in the first place?

Well, at least we know they work. That's the upside, considering we're headed into severe storm season here in the panhandle. Maybe next time, though, we don't blast them so early in the morning. It's not the Friday wakeup call I was looking for.
