Texas Panhandle Kid Writes Name Into NCAA Record Book
Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle isn't exactly known for big time athletic success at the next level. Sure, we have had our fair share of athletes have some big time success in going to the next level.
Most recently those athletes include Brendan Hausen, Tucker Davidson, and Heston Kjerstad just to name a few.
Hausen got a full ride scholarship to play basketball at Villanova, but recently transferred to Kansas State. Still not too shabby. Davidson pitched in the big leagues with the Atlanta Braves and is currently overseas playing professionally. Kjerstad spent some time on the Orioles roster in 2024 and is poised for a breakout season in 2025.
However, none of them are the Texas Panhandle athlete I'm about to hit you with. This player officially broke an NCAA record in his final game as a senior and has officially written his name in the history books.
Army QB Bryson Daily hails from the panhandle town of Abernathy where he was a multi-sport star, but football is where his calling card truly was. Upon graduating, Daily made the decision to join Army and their football team.
The service academies have a tendency to have run-heavy offenses at the college level, so the QB has to be mobile and have the ability to pick up first downs and score touchdowns.
It's the last one that Daily did the best, score touchdowns. On December 28, 2024, those touchdowns put Daily in the record books. Playing in his final collegiate game, the Independence Bowl, Daily carried the ball 27 times and picked up 127 yards on the ground.
Am impressive performance for sure, but he also added three rushing touchdowns to that total, giving him 32 rushing TD's on the season. That number is one more than the 31 TD's former Navy QB Keenan Reynolds, which not only gave him the service academy record of most single-season TD's by any player, but gave him the NCAA record for most rushing TD's by a QB in a single season.
The Texas Panhandle is now officially written into the NCAA record books. Now the fun part, waiting to see how long it takes someone to break that record. Something tells me Daily wants to hang on to that one for awhile.
