We're nearly at one of the happiest times of the year for parents when students start heading back to school. The first day for Lubbock ISD is August 12, but let's take a look at what else is coming up down the road this school year.

August - December 2026 LISD Calendar

The next major milestone in the LISD calendar after the first day of school is Labor Day on September 7th. That was always the best as a kid: going to school for three weeks before getting a day off right away.

Well, students and staff get another day off just one month later for Columbus Day on October 12. Halloween happens to fall on a Saturday this year, but LISD is giving many students Friday, the 30th, off as well as a part of GOALS DAY.

What is GOALS DAY?

GOALS Day stands for Go for Academic Learning and Success. This day is meant for professional development for teachers and staff. It's also a way of giving students a day to get out of the classroom and into the community with a slew of local activities fun for all families.

November and December each have quite a few days off for fall break and the holidays. These include November 2nd and November 23rd - 27th.

Students will get an early dismissal on December 17th for winter break which lasts from the 18th all the way until Wednesday, January 6th.

January - May 2027 LISD Calendar

Once again, students are back for just a short period of time before getting another holiday. This time, it's MLK day on January 18th.

Next, a four-day weekend falls on February 12th - 15th for staff professional development and President's Day.

March is the month every student looks forward to the most. This is when they'll get a week-long spring break from the 12th through the 19th. They're only back for four days until yet another four-day weekend from March 26 - 29th.

April is when STAAR testing takes place, capped off by a five-day weekend from April 29th through May 3rd.

The final month of the school year, May, sees an early dismissal on the last day of the academic year: May 27th.

There you have it! Remember, visit LISD's website to see the 2026-2027 academic calendar today. Oh, and don't wait until the last minute to get school supplies. Trust me, your kids will thank you.
