It appears as though someone in Lubbock wanted to start a major fire at a local apartment complex and now Lubbock Fire Rescue is looking for a suspect.

That's where you come in. They need your help identifying who may have started a fire at a Lubbock apartment complex on Wednesday according to a press release from the department.

The Lubbock Fire Rescue Fire Marshal’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a suspect believed to have intentionally started a fire at an apartment complex near the 2300 Block of West Loop 289.

At approximately 4:00PM, Lubbock Fire Rescue received a 911 call reporting a fire that had started next to an apartment building and was rapidly spreading toward nearby structures. First-arriving units encountered heavy smoke coming from the rear of the apartment complex.

Fire crews acted quickly to contain and extinguish the fire before it could extend into the apartment building. The fire was contained to a patch of grass and a fence line, preventing further damage to the structure and surrounding residences.

Following the incident, Investigators with the Fire Marshal’s Office reviewed surveillance footage from the area. The video appears to show an individual intentionally igniting the grass before fleeing the scene.

The incident is currently under investigation, and officials are urging anyone with information that may assist in identifying the suspect to come forward.
