It Has Snowed In April Before In Lubbock, But Will It This Year?
Those new to Lubbock may be a little surprised by the cooler temperatures we are experiencing early this week since the weather the last couple of weeks has been very Spring-like. But those who have lived in Lubbock for years know, that April can still bring cold temperatures and even snow.
April Snowfall in Lubbock
According to the National Weather Service, the last time Lubbock saw any measurable amount of snow in April was back in 2013 when 0.4 inches of snow fell on the Hub City on April 10. And that's not even the latest snowfall on record in Lubbock. The latest measurable snowfall in Lubbock occurred on April 12, 1980 when Lubbock received 1.4 inches of snow.
On April 9, 1942 Lubbock received a whopping 6 inches of snowfall and on April 7, 1983 Lubbock received 4.4 inches.
Since 2007 though, it has only snowed twice in April in Lubbock.
Snow This April?
So what are the chances of an April snowfall in Lubbock? Not exactly zero percent, but pretty close. In fact, later this week temperatures are expected to rebound into the 80's this weekend, cool off to more seasonal temperatures next week into the 60's and 70's and barring some massive cold front after April 9th, the chances of snow look bleak.
So instead, prepare for possible rain showers moving into April and May and thunderstorms along with possible severe weather.
