Texas summertime is great for people like me who love fresh summer fruit. From watermelon to avocado, produce that is in-season is hard to beat. It is typically more flavorful, has a better texture, and is a wonderful treat.

While that should be the case for most of us this time of year, some people are having some misfortune with their produce. So much so, that it has you wondering what on earth is going on.

It’s not just that some produce is seemingly not as good this season, but there is something seriously wrong with it.

People have been buying various fruits and ending up with concerning textures reminiscent of rubber.

One Texas woman took to TikTok to share her experience with an avocado she got from the grocery store. At first it simply seemed unripe, so she let it sit out on the counter for two whole weeks waiting for it to finally ripen for her to use it.

Finally giving up after two weeks of the avocado going un-changed, she cut into it and found that the whole fruit was hard and rubbery.

This left the comment section in turmoil as some people claiming this is our future with genetically modified food, and others stating that it is just an unfortunate result of the fruit being harvested too soon and not ripening properly.

The strange thing is that this is something that seems to be happening a lot this season. Not only with avocado, but also watermelon, blueberries, and bananas according to some people’s posts online.
