While Amazon can be a great place to buy home basics, cheap electronics, or budget-friendly clothing, there are some things you should never buy from there. The biggest one being skincare.

With the rise of so many different skincare brands over the past few years, more people than ever are prioritizing the health and longevity of their skin. This is a wonderful thing and I’m excited to see it happen, but it can get quite expensive after a while.

The high price of good skincare means that people are going to be looking for cheaper alternatives, or simply the best deal they can get on what they believe to be the best product for them. This means many people turn to Amazon to get what they believe to be great deals on an otherwise hefty price tag.

The problem is that Amazon does not regulate what is going into the skincare products on their website. This means that someone can use the same packaging as the expensive product you don’t want to pay full-price for and fill it with a completely different product.

SkinCeuticals, a brand that makes medical-grade products, spent millions on buying back products labeled as their own on Amazon. In doing this they found that over 99% of the products sold and labeled as SkinCeuticals by Amazon retailers were either fake or diluted with other ingredients.

These often untested and counterfeit ingredients will not give the customer the same results as the original product and can even cause harm to the skin. So, the next time you are shopping for skincare, avoid using Amazon.
