Back-to-School Heatwave: When Will Amarillo Finally See Relief From Triple Digits?

The one word that can sum up the summer in Amarillo is hot. Last summer we didn't hit triple-digit heat until way deep into the season, and there weren't many of them. That is not the story this summer.

A Brutal Summer: Comparing This Year's Heat to Last Year

We recently weathered a brutal stretch tying the record for ten consecutive days at 100 degrees or higher, and after a brief, minor dip, the heat returned with a vengeance. We got right back up to the heat, and here we are still sitting that way.

This week it doesn't seem to change much. We started the week hitting over one hundred with no relief in the summer temperatures until the end of the week. So we have that to look forward to.

While school bells are ringing and children are heading back to class, summer weather is far from finished, not by a long shot.

The Week Ahead: Triple Digits and Peak Temperatures

Our hottest day of the week seems to be Wednesday, and we could possibly see some rain overnight Thursday. So fingers crossed. Your Amarillo forecast looks a lot like it has the past few weeks:

• Tuesday: Hot with a high of 100. Low of 75 overnight.
• Wednesday: Hot again with a high near 102. Low of 76 overnight.
• Thursday: Repeat of the hot temperatures, high of 101. Chance of thunderstorms overnight. Low of 73 overnight.
• Friday: Mostly Sunny with a slight chance of Thunderstorms and a high of 97. Rain chances continuing overnight with a low of 71.
• Saturday: We could still see some rain and a high of only 95. Lows overnight of 70.
• Sunday: Mostly Sunny and a high of 95.

Beating the Heat: Why Amarillo Splash Pads Are Still Essential

Don't be fooled by the back-to-school calendar; your summer wardrobe still has plenty of life left in it.  Luckily, the splash pads will still be open after school. They will be much appreciated with all of the heat we have had as of late.
