According to Travis County sheriff's spokeswoman Kristen Dark, "Two deputies were escorting Armstrong back to the patrol car when suddenly she took off running," it is unclear whether she was handcuffed at the time.

Armstrong ran off towards an Austin neighborhood and managed to travel about a block. Police were able to quickly detain her, Dark said Armstrong remained within the deputies' eyesight during the minutes she was out of custody.

PLOTTING HER ESCAPE

Evidence may prove Armstrong had been plotting this escape for months. As investigators were searching inside Armstrong's cell they found "a metal pin that had been broken off, providing a solid thin metal piece that likely could be used to manipulate a handcuff to be removed."

Jail staff also said "Armstrong had recently utilized an injury complaint to secure an outside medical appointment as well as a medical request restricting the use of leg restraints."
