Celebrating Emilio’s Birthday With a Look Back to His Last Performance in Victoria

August 23rd was the 64th heavenly birthday of the legendary Emilio Navaira. It's hard to believe that Emilio has been gone for over 10 years. His music continues to be a huge part of Tejano music.  I still remember what I was doing when I learned of his passing.

Emilio's tragic and sudden passing occurred on May 16, 2026. After a little research, it appears that Emilio's final show in Victoria was on April  11th, 2015, at DeLeon Plaza. Thanks to kitkat7556 on YouTube, we have those memories preserved. Check out this video of Emilio performing "Naciste Para Mí."

As always, Emilio performed for a huge crowd in Victoria. However, the one show that always comes to mind is when he played at the Sun Valley Ranch in 1993. It was a SOLD OUT show, and you couldn't move.  I was there, and I recall that doors opened at 7 o'clock for that dance. My friends and I were near the front of the line, about 10 people deep. By the time the doors opened at 8, there was a line of people all the way out to Cuero Highway. Not to mention cars parked up and down Highway 87
