The Surprising Number Of Duplicate Businesses In Nacogdoches
You might remember a post from the other day about the number of grocery stores in Nacogdoches - it was seven for those of you that might not know what I'm talking about. That seems to be a bit excessive for a city the size of Nac.
But then I started thinking about other things that Nacogdoches has an abundance, or even an over-abundance of. Keep in mind, I'm not advocating for the removal of already established places to leave. I'm just thinking that maybe Nacogdoches should just avoid adding more of the same type of businesses, for now...
Are you ready? Let's take a look at a few:
Grocery Stores
As we have discussed, Nacogdoches has seven different grocery stores. Two Walmarts, two Krogers, two Brookshire Brothers and one Aldi. We've discussed those enough, so I'll leave that right where it sits.

Dollar Stores
"Dollar Store" is kind of a catch-all phrase. Generally, when someone says they're going to the "dollar store" they are referring to any store with dollar in the name (i.e. Dollar General, Family Dollar, Dollar Tree). Well, it turns out that Nacogdoches has quite a few of these as well.
Between those three store brands that I named above, there are nine of those stores in Nacogdoches.
Donut Shops
If you Google "Donut Shops Nacogdoches TX" the line between donut shops and bakeries gets a little mixed up. However, by my count, I come up with eight donut shops. I'm counting places that serve donuts for breakfast on a regular basis, not just bakeries in the city.
Eight donut shops. That's a bunch of fried dough, y'all...
Antique Shops / Vendor Malls
This one is a bit more difficult to keep up with, considering there is a difference between vendor malls and antique shops. However, since they do have a lot of crossover, considering that lots of the occupants of the vendor malls actually sell antique items, I've grouped them together.
I'm not sure on the exact number of these in Nacogdoches, but I know that there are at least five in and around Nacogdoches. That's a lot....
As you can see, Nacogdoches has a bunch of duplicate stores. Maybe this happened because one or two of them worked really well, so other people started bringing them in hoping for the same success. I really don't know. What are your thoughts?
