If you've spent any time around Stephen F. Austin State University, there's a good - actually, VERY good - chance that you've heard about Jack Backers College Bookstore. For those of you who aren't familiar with it, it's the bookstore on the corner of East College Street and Raguet Street in Nacogdoches on the edge of the SFA campus. Jack Backers is going through some major changes.

Jack Backers College Bookstore is Undergoing Major Renovations

Over the past few weeks, the Jack Backers store has been going through major renovations. Namely, redoing the roof and redoing the entire front of the building. This is what the front looked like before:

And, after construction (which isn't finished yet), this is what it looked like as of August 10th:

As you can see, they've done away with the awning, changed the windows, redone the facade...It's been quite the process. But that's not all that they've done.

They've also been in the process of redoing the roof. Let's take one more step back in time. This is what it looked like before, via Google Maps:

So, you're looking at a building with a traditional shingle roof, with spinning vents on top. Pretty straightforward, right?

Shingles are gone, upright vents are gone, and the metal roof has been installed. If you haven't done roofing work before, you might not realize how big of a deal that is, and how much change that really is.

Seeing these changes at Jack Backers is exciting. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product. We haven't seen this much change since they moved from their old location on North Street to this one...
