Red Dirt & Classic Country Legends Are Coming To Lubbock’s Cactus Theater
Lubbock's historic Cactus Theater (1812 Buddy Holl) has a big season planned for fans of all genres of music, but country fans in particular are sure to rejoice.
Coming soon to the Cactus is Red Dirt legend Cody Canada with his backing band The Departed. You probably know Cody from his time in Cross Canadian Ragweed. Cody Canada and The Departed will perform at the Cactus Friday, May 5th. Tickets are available here and will almost certainly sell out. Openers will be announced closer to the date.
A road warrior and prolific songwriter, Canada was the frontman of Cross Canadian Ragweed, a wildly influential band that dominated the Red Dirt scene for more than a decade, and made music that reached far beyond the genre's borders, selling millions of albums and playing for huge audiences across the U.S.
Classic country legends The Oak Ridge Boys will be at the Cactus on Sunday, May 14th. Tickets are available here and will also likely sell out. I'm sure you've heard their biggest hit Elvira, but The Oak Ridge Boys are much bigger than that, in fact, they have 12 gold, three platinum, and one double platinum album and have performed with nearly everybody:
Their career has spanned not only decades, but also formats. In 1977, Paul Simon tapped the Oaks to sing backup for his hit Slip Slidin’ Away, and they went on to record with George Jones, Brenda Lee, Johnny Cash, Roy Rogers, Billy Ray Cyrus, Bill Monroe, Ray Charles and even Shooter Jennings, the son of their old friends Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter. Most recently, the group recorded a duet with Merle Haggard for their 2015 Rock of Ages hymns and gospel favorites album.
The Cactus Theater has a diverse and dynamic entertainment schedule. To see everything that's coming up, be sure to check the Cactus Theater website regularly.
