If you're a Black entrepreneur, you might consider moving to Texas to start a new business. Texas actually just came in at #8 on Merchant Maverick's yearly list of the top 10 best places in the United States for Black entrepreneurs in 2023.

No, the Lone Star State didn't come in first, but ranking #8 out of 50 states is definitely something to be proud of. We even beat out North Carolina at #9 and Florida at #10.

Texas actually ranked third last year but still managed to stay in the top 10 for 2023. One benefit to starting a business in Texas is that Texas doesn't have state income taxes. Also, the average annual income in Texas is $62,326, which is the 9th highest in the United States. No state income tax and a high average income rate certainly help new business owners maneuver through the first few years with their new start-up.

According to their study, the Mid-Atlantic still reigns supreme as the number one hotspot for Black entrepreneurs. The majority of the states that scored high on the list have an exceptionally large black population.
