Food And Fun: LBK Foodies ‘Take Over’ F&F Japanese Grill In Lubbock
Yesterday (3/27/24) I had the good fortune to attend the first LBK Foodies Takeover at F&F Japanese Grill (6616 Milwaukee Suite #400). It was a wonderful, and delicious, experience.
The purpose of the takeover was two-fold: to give LBK Foodies members the chance to try several items from a new restaurant at one discounted price, and for the restaurant to see a boost in both sales and awareness.
It's also a chance to support local, something I'm passionate about, as F&F Japanese Grill is owned and operated by a Lubbockite. The larger F&F chain is currently exclusive to Texas.
I was very impressed with the quick service and the fresh, delicious food. I would have probably not ordered either the seaweed or the squid salad, but we were given generous sample portions of both, and I found myself unable to stop eating them until it was all gone. So, in the future, I will be ordering them, and I'm so happy to have made this discovery.
We were also given our choice of a hot appetizer. I chose the gyoza because it's one of my all-time favorite appetizers. We were given four, but I only got a picture of three, because I lack self-control around gyoza. They were perfectly prepared.
For our main, we were able to choose a two-protein hibachi-style dish. I think most folks went with beef and chicken- for which they got very generous portions. I was feeling bougie so I got shrimp and tofu and I was NOT disappointed.
I got huge shrimp with fantastic flavor and perfectly prepared tofu. Most places either fry tofu into a gross sponge or don't cook it enough- which is an even worse texture. I was seriously impressed with F&F's tofu and will order it again.
With our protein we were given the option of veggies with rice or noodles- I opted for all veggies and it made for a crisp, fresh, and healthy dish.
As a fun surprise, event organizer Tracy Cole also arranged for a surprise dessert for the first LBK Foodies to show- Japanese-style cheesecakes from Desert Rose Cheesecakery. They were fluffy little clouds of cheesecake deliciousness.
Not only will I be sure to return to F&F Japanese Grill, I'm also keeping my eyes peeled for the next LBK Foodies Takeover. If you're not an LBK Foodie member yet, be sure to join the group on Facebook.
