2100Southwest Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Hope, Arkansas, is set to receive more than $1 million through the Arkansas Rural Health Transformation Program to improve emergency preparedness, expand specialty care and strengthen healthcare services for patients across Southwest Arkansas.

The funding is part of the first round of awards announced by Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders. The Arkansas Rural Health Partnership received $18.8 million for rural healthcare projects across Arkansas, including four projects involving Southwest Arkansas Regional Medical Center.

Funding Will Improve Emergency Preparedness

The largest award is $774,340 for a new emergency generator at the hospital. The generator will help keep the medical center operating during power outages, severe weather and other emergencies.

The hospital will also receive $176,850 to expand specialty care through telemedicine. The project will provide virtual physician carts that allow local patients to connect with specialists without having to travel outside the area.

Additional Funding Supports Emergency and Behavioral Health Care

Another $35,370 will provide emergency teleconsultation services, giving the emergency department greater access to specialized medical expertise when needed.

The hospital will also receive $25,500 for behavioral health services. The funding will help improve care for patients experiencing behavioral health emergencies while supporting a safer environment.

“These investments will make a meaningful difference in our ability to care for the people of Southwest Arkansas,” said Shelby Brown, Chief Administrative Officer. “This funding gives us the opportunity to expand the care and resources available to patients in our community and make sure more people can get the care they need.”
