TxDOT Wants Your Input to Shape the Future of Northeast Texas Bike Trails
Bicycle lanes aren't just for fun rides and recreation. They can also make a big difference for people who rely on a bicycle to get to work, school, appointments or the grocery store. Having safer places to ride can give people more transportation options, especially those who don't have access to a car.
Now, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is asking residents to help plan for better bicycling options across Northeast Texas.

TxDOT's Atlanta District is giving us the chance to see an interactive online map and share their thoughts about the routes as part of the ongoing development of the Atlanta District Bicycle Plan. The public's input will help identify where bicycle improvements are needed most and can help guide future recommendations.
Help Shape the Plan For Bicycle Trails & Routes
The online map allows residents to weigh in on proposed bicycle routes, recommended uses for bikeways along state roadways and potential changes to designated Bicycle Tourism Trails. You'll also be able to identify priority areas where improvements could make a difference.

According to the TxDOT website, the survey should take about 10 to 15 minutes to complete, depending on how much feedback you want to provide.
The Atlanta District includes Bowie, Camp, Cass, Harrison, Marion, Morris, Panola, Titus and Upshur counties.
While bicycle routes can provide new opportunities for recreation and tourism, they also serve an important purpose for people who depend on bicycles as their primary means of transportation.
Safer bicycle lanes and routes can help riders travel with greater confidence, reduce conflicts with vehicle traffic and make it easier to get where they need to go. Better bicycle infrastructure can also help connect communities and give residents more ways to get around.
How to Participate
You can find the interactive map by visiting txdot.gov and search for “Atlanta District Bicycle Plan,” or by going directly to TxDOT's Atlanta District Bicycle Plan page.
The map and survey will be open for public feedback through Friday, November 6.
TxDOT plans to release a draft of the bicycle plan for public review and comment next year.
