The Arkansas State Police (ASP) are reminding fairgoers to review security policies before heading to the Arkansas State Fair, which runs October 16-25 in Little Rock.

The State police are increasing the number of troopers assigned to the fair this year. They will work alongside Pulaski County sheriff’s deputies and Little Rock police officers to help keep visitors safe.

“We encourage fairgoers to review security policies before arriving, stay aware of their surroundings, and notify an officer or fair security staff member if they see something concerning,” said ASP Director Col. Mike Hagar.

Here are some important rules to know before you go.

Know The Bag Restrictions

Everyone entering the fairgrounds must pass through a walk-through metal detector, and all bags are subject to inspection.

Bags larger than 12 inches by 12 inches by 6 inches are prohibited. Other banned bags include:

  • Backpacks, including clear backpacks
  • Fanny packs and drawstring bags
  • Camera and binocular cases
  • Oversized totes, mesh bags and briefcases
  • Luggage and computer bags
  • Tinted or patterned plastic bags
  • Purses and clutch bags exceeding the size limit are also prohibited.

Leave Weapons And Other Prohibited Items At Home

Weapons are prohibited on the fairgrounds, whether carried openly or concealed, including by concealed carry permit holders. Pocketknives, chains, spikes and other items deemed a security concern are also banned.

Other prohibited items include outside food and beverages, selfie sticks, drones, Segways and unauthorized tents. Pets generally are not allowed on the fairgrounds, with exceptions for service animals and certain authorized animals.

Special rules for visitors under 18

Anyone younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult age 21 or older to enter the fairgrounds after 6 p.m.

Fair staff may request identification to verify ages. Minors without identification who are not accompanied by an adult will not be admitted, and unaccompanied minors already inside may be removed. Credentialed youth exhibitors wearing designated wristbands may qualify for an exemption.

A Few More Safety Tips

Parents can request identification wristbands at the entrance to help reunite with children who become separated from their families.

State police encourage everyone to stay aware of their surroundings and follow instructions from law enforcement and fair security personnel throughout their visit.
