Indianapolis Colts Fire Head Coach Jim Caldwell

The Indianapolis Colts have fired Jim Caldwell after a disappointing 2-14 season.

The team announced the decision Tuesday.

Caldwell had just finished his third and worst season as head coach of the Colts. The team struggled without injured quarterback Peyton Manning.

It was the second big move for the franchise since seasons end, as the day after it ended owner Jim Irsay fired team vice chairman Bill Polian and Polian’s son, Chris, Indy’s general manager.

Caldwell began his NFL coaching career by winning his first 14 games, the most in NFL history by a rookie head coach, and leading Indianapolis to the Super Bowl. He followed that up with an AFC South title in his second season.

Caldwell ended his Colts’ tenure 26-22 overall with one AFC title, two division crowns and one bleak season that has left him unemployed just three years after replacing close friend Tony Dungy.
