Highest Daily Count of COVID-19 Cases Reported in Lubbock Since February
Only time will tell if this is more than a one or two-day spike, but on Tuesday, July 20th, the City of Lubbock Health Department reported its highest one-day number of COVID-19 cases since February.
Tuesday, 73 new Coronavirus cases were diagnosed in Lubbock County, the highest single-day number since 70 were diagnosed on February 10th, 2021 and 106 cases on February 2nd. Two additional deaths were also reported on Tuesday.
Lubbock's Coronavirus recovery rate is currently at 97.6 percent, and 0.9 percent of the 49,966 total cases diagnosed are active. However, the number of active cases has recently risen in Lubbock County over the past few weeks to 442 on Tuesday.
The 20-29 age group continues to have the highest number of total diagnosed COVID-19 cases in Lubbock County, currently at 12,846.

The last COVID-19 press conference held by the City of Lubbock and the Lubbock Health Department was on May 26th, just about eight weeks ago.
A reminder that Texas' mask mandates were completely lifted in early June after an executive order issued by Governor Greg Abbott.
None of the Texas Trauma Service areas are close to the 15 percent threshold for COVID-19 hospitalization rate, which would potentially trigger new restrictions related to COVID-19.
Lubbock, and most of the South Plains, is in Trauma Service Area B. As of Tuesday, the COVID-19 hospitalization rate in Trauma Service Area B is 3.8 percent.
