We're about a month away from the start of summer and the supply of gasoline is increasing across the U.S. Over the past week, the net result of the increase supply is gas prices slightly dropping in many places in Texas. However, the increased supply probably won't stave off additional price increases later this year.

According to this week's AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch, the average price of regular unleaded gas is $2.58 a gallon, down one cent from last week.

Lubbock and Amarillo's average prices both dropped two cents this week to $2.60, and $2.49 a gallon, respectively. Midland's average price was unchanged at $2.87 a gallon. The same could be said for Odessa too; Odessa's average price was unchanged at $2.82 a gallon.

Abilene's average price for gas dropped one cent to $2.68 a gallon, and San Angelo's is one cent less than Abilene at $2.67 a gallon.

According to this week's AAA Texas survey, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $2.89 a gallon, while drivers in San Antonio are paying the least at $2.40 per gallon. Amarillo's average price is tied for third lowest in the state.

"Texas drivers are seeing some stability at the pump when compared to last week,” said AAA Texas spokesperson Daniel Armbruster. “However, market forecasts still suggest that prices will likely rise as we head into the summer driving season, but by how much remains to be seen.”

This week's national average increased by one cent to $2.89 a gallon. AAA Texas notes that Texas has the second lowest average price of gas in the country.
