Florida State Rolls Stony Brook 12-2 in the College World Series
The Florida State Seminoles ended Stony Brook's Cinderella bid at the college world series. Florida State coach Mike Martin was expecting a, "close game" but ended up with the exact opposite in a 12-2 blowout. Mike Martin was quoted after the game saying, "Certainly something that I was not expecting. It certainly was a great lift for our team. And if I'm not mistaken, we got them all with two outs, and that's something that you just credit the young men for having great at-bats and getting it done."
Florida State was led from the mound by freshman Mike Compton who won for the 12th time this season. Coach Smith also commented on Compton's performance saying, I'm very, very proud of the way our guys got it done. We had a number of key things that happened during the ballgame. But certainly it all starts with the man on the mound, and Michael did an outstanding job. Six innings of, I believe, six-hit baseball against a club as talented as Stony Brook, we were very, very impressed."
Florida State will now face Arizona Tuesday night at 8 p.m. (EST). That game will be televised live on ESPN. As for Stony Brook, their season is over.
